a high-collared, deep blue iris frock coat

November 19, 2008

This elegant frock coat has been sewn from luxurious brocade fabric with midnight blue silk lining, cut to follow the body’s curves closely. The hue of the brocade is reminiscent of a deep blue iris flower with cobalt blue, dark indigo, sapphire blue and luscious smudges of purple shifting smoothly upon the fabric. It descends to mid-thigh in the front and dives slightly lower in the back where the cut is accented by a trail of crushed amethysts and blue sapphires travelling upwards from the sides of the hem amidst cerulean filigree embroidery. The same ornamentation adorns the hem of the cuffs and each inner side of the front panels before they culminate in a raised collar.

a split, knee-length surcoat emblazoned with cogs

October 6, 2008

This smart black surcoat is sewn from black, brocaded silk woven with the subtle images of cherry branches and bewinged imps. Split up the sides to the hip, the surcoat is tailored neatly to side and chest, allowing the image of a tarnished cog marred with blackened cracks to be displayed clearly over the heart. A ruffle of pleated crimson silk stands crisply at the neck, complimenting the otherwise uniform ebon of the garment. The bottom of the surcoat is tailored to the waist, parting to reveal a crisp petticoat of sanguine brocade pressed into careful, elegant pleats.

a black frock coat adorned with ribbons

August 8, 2008

This elegant frock coat has been sewn from a rich black brocade fabric – cut close to fit the female form, it descends to mid-thigh in front and back, then rises via small buttons of black pearl to a tailored cap collar at the throat. Overlapping strips of black lace and winding patches of pitch embroidery mark sides and front of the coat, interspersed with corset-like weavings of sanguine silk. Similar lacings adorn the closely fit arms of the coat, draping down into loose lengths of ribbon that hang like banners beneath the sleeves in a crimson cavalcade of shining silk.

an immaculate white overcoat

August 8, 2008

Crisp, unadorned fabric, bleached til nearly gleaming with white, has been pressed and sewn into this immaculate labcoat. Straight seams and tiny stitches form simple lines that fall to mid-calf, interrupted only by one pocket on each side, and a line of bleached bone buttons that run from waist to the ironed wing collar. The sleeves are equally crisp and unadorned running from collar to wrist in straight, pressed lines.

a trailing, hooded coat of slate grey chiffon

August 8, 2008

An epitome of airy elegance, this coat makes quite the dramatic first impression. It has been sewn wholly out of chiffon with a volominous hood flowing down the back and bell-shaped sleeves held back by an elbow seam. The coat ties with a dark slate satin ribbon at its empire waist and trails mysteriously behind the wearer at least two feet behind. It is otherwise unornamented, meant to be clearly worn for its dark ethereal quality than for adornment or protection.

a loose charcoal coat with dark-silver trimming

August 8, 2008

This floor-reaching coat has been sewn to fit as overwear of about any garment comfortably. It has flowing, loose sleeves with silver lining and has been cut to flow down and fit well without any buttons – which indeed it lacks. It has no collar; rather it opens up in the front like an unclasped cloak. The thick, yet soft, material has been dyed to a matte charcoal hue and lacks any ornamentation bar a dark-silver, thin line of embroidery along the hems of the sleeves, around the neck and then down to the floor up front. The embroidery depicts swirls of no particular origin or pattern and is the only element slightly lighting up this sombre coat.

a heavy, golden coat coruscating with gems

August 7, 2008

This is a garment befitting royalty rather than common masses, for it has been heavily and expensively ornamented, and thus its lustre and weight is ill-fit for common and daily wear. It has been sewn entirely out of finest golden brocade; even the lining consists of brocade, but one tinted to a red gold hue. The coat itself is long, dragging slightly behind even the tallest wearer, loose to fit well over a robe, and the sleeves are long and voluminous. The front and back had been lavishly embroidered with a light golden and silver thread, leaving very little untouched space. Down the front opening, from the slightly raised collar to the very bottom, run two vertical lines of embroidery that have been set with a myriad of various gems. The hems of the sleeves have been accented likewise, as has the collar. Overall, the coat exudes a sense of superiority and richness not found amongst the lesser overwear.

a dove-grey suede coat with silver embroidery

August 7, 2008

Alluring and opulent, this coat distinguishes itself not by expensive gems or intricate embroidery, but rather by the quality of its materials and the sewing work. It has been almost entirely sewn from thin, supple suede of a dove-grey hue and lined with slightly darker velvet. The bodice has two seams in the front that run in a curve to the shoulders and then down the back where grey silken sashes assure a good fit. The collar constitutes one piece with the bodice and stands up slightly at the back. Silk sashes of a purple-grey colour lace up the front through loops sewn into the seams. The lacing runs from below the bust to the bodice’s base where it is accented by a silver pentagram buckle. The sleeves are a two piece suede construction, ending around the elbow with an additional layer sewn into it. This lower part is a petal-shaped panel which opens from the inner elbow and falls loosely from the back of the forearm, brushing past the fingertips. A layer of silvery, cream-coloured silk has been used for under-sleeves and skims the edges of the wearer’s hands like an elaborate blouse. The whole length of the outside of the arm is marked by silver embroidery on either sleeve, the thread depicting elaborate swirls. The overskirts consist of four separate panels with the front ones curving softly upwards to meet at the front of the coat above the knees. Like the sleeves, the bottom part has an underskirt of silvery grey silk which protrudes from below a few inches, tracing the shape of the main layer. Overall, the coat is fine enough to wear as proper clothing and fits nicely as over-wear of a short dress, as well as that of robes or trousers.
