an intricately patterned amaranth notebook

August 11, 2008

Smooth ivory leather stretched taut over a thin frame of wood and wire comprises the deceptively delicate form of this notebook. Overlapping layers of translucent enamel spill across the cover, depicting the Lady Nifilhema at rest on a settee, one bloodstained hand propped beneath her chin, golden mirror dangling from the other. Above, the Weeping Amaranth blooms, golden hooks and wires woven tightly across the surface in a harsh, yet beautious netting. A faint pattern of ghostly amaranth blooms lingers in the background, scarcely more than clouds given faint definition by shades of silver and grey. The pages within the notebook are a creamy, high quality of vellum from which rises the compelling scent of wine and roses.

a crude iron textbook

August 10, 2008

This heavy textbook has been bound in thick iron plates that lend an unusually substantial presence to the book. Acid-etched engravings bite deep into the cover of the book, depicting the five Demon Lords around a central motif of the Megalith of Doom. The glittering eyes of the Lords are rendered in ruby, and their figures are outlined in gold, providing a contrast to the otherwise rough and untouched black metal of the book. The pages within have been roughly hewn from crude paper, and bear the artifacts of the pressing: imperfections and threads weave their way through the pulped material, creating a harsh surface upon which the text is printed.
