a black scroll marked with a crimson pawn

December 28, 2008

Ebon-hued vellum has been pressed and sliced into the sharp edges of this scroll – glittering threads of gold wink up from the material, an artifact of the bookbinding process. A single red pawn, strikingly crimson against the dark background, has been inked at the top of the scroll. Both ends of the material are wrapped securely around round, featureless bars of black steel. A ribbon of dark grey silk wraps around the furled scroll, securing it neatly to the endcaps.

a black vellum scroll capped in garnet

September 21, 2008

The vellum of this elegant scroll is a cold, unrelieved black, touched only by a single golden glyph in the supper left corner that denotes rage and destruction, and wrapping securely at either end around thin bars of blood-red garnet engraved with a sigil that speaks the name of the Lord of Wrath. A thin cord of red leather wraps around the scroll, holding it securely closed.

an ivory scroll bound in jade tentacles

August 19, 2008

The rich vellum of this green-tinted scroll is bound in a ring of carved jade – the surface of the ring is separated into dozens of miniscule tentacles, each elaborately detailed with slavering maws and tiny, grasping suckers. The scroll itself, aside from a faint, greyscale depiction of roiling tentacles, is otherwise unmarked. The astringent scent of herbs, unpleasant and faintly repulsive, rises from the length of vellum.

an inky scroll of Nil

August 11, 2008

This inky scroll is covered with gruesome, shadowy depictions of demons at play on Nil – fiends bearing harps of merian bones, archdemons embracing maidens, imps telling fortunes with intestines. Jagged-edged and raw, the roll is secured by a single length of blood-red silk ribbon, the surface slubbed with gold and orange imperfections, artifacts of the weave.

a chained scroll of Nifilhema and Ashtorath

August 10, 2008

Delicate ivory parchment, crisp and free of flaws, has been wound liberally around a central bar of white marble lightly veined with tendrils of silver. Intricate, stylised carvings flow across the pale stone, depicting Nifilhema in a long, corsetted gown, her face upturned to Ashtorath, whose arms she stands in the circle of as his face looks down into hers in triumph. Amaranth vines entwine around the pair, a many-lobed flower opening above their heads and shedding miniscule chains of silver that wrap around the bar and each other in criss-crossing patterns, only to hook securely at the far end of the bar, securing the parchment and themselves around the marble. Unrolled, the parchment of the scroll is marked with a design of blood-red and sable orchids entangled with weaving chains of golden bells. At the lower righthand corner of the scroll, a small red circle shot through with ominous veins of black has been rendered in watercolour.

an ephemeral silken amaranth scroll

August 10, 2008

This ephemeral silken scroll is composed of a long length of charcoal grey silk, capped at either of the long ends by thin bars of silver pressed with interweaving vines of amaranth. Finely wrought carvings of bone on either end of the bars depict amaranth buds, their casings just beginning to split to reveal the petals within. Delicate, translucent layers of watercolour in the shades of ivory, crimson, and a nebulous pink laced with sparkling motes of silver dust adorn the silken fabric of the scroll, depicting an amaranth in full bloom, ivory petals streaked with bloody red and pink. A single ribbon of flawless white silk wraps around the scroll, serving to secure the contents within.

This scroll is composed of a single length of translucent crimson silk wound onto two bars of polished bone. Intricately detailed carvings on the surface of the bar depict images of fiends, toga-clad and bearing baskets of flowers. A slender cord of braided golden silk serves to secure the scroll, the looped ends fitting and knotting neatly around two onyx fobs at the centre of each bar.
