a stormy manuscript depicting a girl

August 10, 2008

Cobalt blue leather gilded with a border of gold wraps this loose manuscript together, thin lacings of blue silk ribbon binding the finely pressed grey pages into the volume. Thin strokes of enameling on the smooth leather cover of the book depict a young woman dressed in loose pants and tunic of grey and black, her long brown hair caught back from her face with a twisting hairpin of bronze and silver. A book lies open in the lap of the girl, and a bare sword has been laid before her knees. Above her, the sky roils with storms, purple lightning striking the mountains behind her.

a bone-white manuscript of the Amaranth

August 10, 2008

Supple, bone-white leather wraps the deceptively fragile iron filigree cover of this thick manuscript, needles sunk into the ivory pages within at the spine to anchor and bind them into the work. Crimson staining touched with elegant, delicate touches of gold and shining silver scallops upwards in a spiralling design on the cover of the manuscript, surrounding the Lady Nifilhema. Eyes half-closed in ecstasy, the Queen of Insufferable Cruelty unfolds outwards from the centre of the Weeping Amaranth, ivory arms raised as if to embrace a cherub that writhes in cruel rose vines above her head.
