a brown marble book with disturbing angles

December 27, 2008

This thick book is carved from brown marble, the surface of which has been left unpolished. Careful chiseling has revealed a bizarre underground scene: mawed caverns yawn with glittering black onyx voids from which glints are visible – glowing eyes, or perhaps the mirror-like sheen of the onyx, while below, subtle lines reveal the ephemeral images of pyramids and obscenely leaning structures around which robed figures cluster, themselves no more than fungoid creatures when viewed from other angles.

an angelskin book enamelled with orchids

December 27, 2008

This delicate ivory book is bound in supple angelskin that wraps partially around the front of the book to partially cover half of the cover. A round, enamelled plate is sunken into the front cover, the golden surface decorated with an elaborate design of sanguinary orchids, petals streaked crimson and black. Swirling calligraphy curves around he plate, declaiming both title and author. The scent of roses and wine rises from the cover in sweet, pungent waves, perfuming the air. A delicate ribbon of crimson silk winds thrice around the book, knotting closed around a small fob of angel bone carved into the form of a garnet-studded orchid.

a black grubskin book embellished with silver

August 10, 2008

Supple black grubskin wraps the form of this disturbing book, glimmering with an oily, rainbow-streaked sheen. Twisting silvery calligraphy outlines a sharply curved spiral on the cover of the book, circling a viscanti female outlined in stylised lines of gold and crimson, arms outstretched as if to grasp the sharp edges of the symbols that surround her. A faint gradient of greys marks the otherwise creamy pages within the book, shading downwards to a crisply inscribed numeral at the bottom right of each vellum sheet.

an intricate golden clockwork book

August 10, 2008

Delicate clockwork turns and spins across the cover of this book, cogs and gears clicking together at the turn of a series of winding keys set into the spine of the book. Stiff leather plated with tarnished gold streaked with discolouration wraps the book beneath, held in place with stiff shafts that plunge downwards from the clockwork into the cover of this delicate masterpiece. Title and author of the book turn on two cogs enmeshed near the top of the work, linking into a complex series of smaller gears that rotate around a central lock point that serves to secure a thick strap that wraps around the thick contents of the book. Miniscule garnets and bits of onyx gleam from the strap, the eyes of imps and fiends that disport themselves in burnt designs upon the thick leather.

a blue-mosaiced book capped in tarnished silver

August 10, 2008

Enamelled and embellished with metallic paints and gleaming gems, the mosaic on the cover of this elegant book depicts the nebulous form of the Enigma opposite Tzaraziko, the Enigmatic. Tendrils of bluish essence swirl around the Enigmatic’s upraised skeletal arm, twining with darker, onyx-streaked inlays of a leviathan, maw flashing as it twines about the insubstantial form of Elostian. Solid darkwood forms the sturdy underpinnings of this book, corners capped with tarnished silver that has been stamped with a stylized question mark.
