a tapestry of the great betrayal

September 24, 2008

Fastened securely to the wall, a broad tapestry depicts the Great Betrayal in sumptuous colour.

Ringed with images of the soulless and the void, this tapestry depicts a verdant land of fountains and forests, brightly embroidered flowers and demure rabbits, bears and deer. At its centre, ringed with gold and silver threads, a glowing rainbow of multi-coloured beings stands assembled, bearing stereotypical expressions of mourning and anger. In front of them, twelve figures stand, bound in black cords. Glowing crimson, the masked figure of Fain stands at their fore, with azure Raezon on his left, and a tall and armoured figure on his right, wringing his gauntlets in despair. Below, and larger than the rest, a glowing merian-like figure of Meridian points an accusatory finger, his face split: anguished and exultant. Overcome with the ridiculousness of his situation, the figure of Fain laughs uncontrollably, while hanging above, in the wide arch of the void that borders the tapestry, a wide mass of ichor, wing and tentacle chews with a hooked beak on the prostrate figure of Amberle.

a sombre tapestry of eventide

August 30, 2008

Murky threads convene here in an eldritch tapestry of the eventide, suspended somnolently.

Dusky, silken filaments are woven tirelessly to compose the thick structure of this tapestry, rendered in the raised patterns of brocade fabric. The embroidered relief forms a vertically repeating pattern of roiling foliage, of impossibly symmetrical flowers and gracefully arched and intertwined vines. The entire tapestry itself represents a subtley chromatic gradation: the bottom of the spectrum is a swarthy hue which gives way to a muted rainbow of shady vermilion, burnished gold and luxurious azure. Barely perciptible amidst these sumtuous cloth tones are the faint silhouettes of dancing shades, achieved by only the slightest of monochrome dyes. From a distance, the tapestry would appear but progression of somber colors, but intimate examination reveals the understated embroidery and spectral ornamentation.
