a jade pipe of writhing tentacles

September 21, 2008

Disturbing angles of verdant jade and writhing, contorted limbs form the curving bowl of this unsettling pipe, suckered limbs stretching upwards from beneath the pipe to curl in slick glory about the edges. Dark in shade, the stone of the pipe is streaked with sickly inclusions of brighter jade that lance through the darker backdrop. A swollen, elongated limb arches out in mute invitation from the bowl, forming the stem of the pipe; at the far reaches of the tentacle a mouthpiece of polished steel wraps about the end, engraved with the stylised image of a shattered amphora.

a lustrous ivory pipe branded with amaranths

August 14, 2008

Smooth, lustrous ivory, polished and inlaid with mosaicking shards of garnet, forms the swelling curves of this pipe. Vines of curling amaranth have been burnt along the stem of the pipe, providing a stark contrast to the glimmering white background. The bowl of the pipe swells outwards, bursting into bloom from the central chamber in blood red shards of gemstone that glitter menacingly beneath the light. The interior of the bowl is lined with tarnished gold, a motif echoed in the fluted mouthpiece at the far end of the pipe.
