a mysterious black porcelain box

Delicate and fragile, this box is fairly small and rests easily within a hand. It has been constructed from fine black porcelain polished to reflect the world around it upon its inky surface. No hinges can be seen but the make indicates it opens in a regular fashion. Likewise, no latch can be discerned in the front but the lid appears to keep shut. Enameled upon the lid are shapes hinting at the unfathomable and eerie with their erratic yet savage lines. The enamel varies from pitch black to dark grey in hue and due to its gloss it melts in with the porcelain, being only visible with the right play of the light.

a scented ebony letter box

The box has been carved from a solid piece of ebony wood, unmarred and polished with a dark oily substance to bring out its rich, natural hue. The top has been left unornamented, only a filigree golden clasp graces the front, complimented by similar hinges in the back. A faint scent of orchids emanates from the surface and inside of the box, which has been fully lined with creamy suede. There are several horizontal compartments within the box, each topped with a bright golden plaque affixed to the divider to indicate contents. It appears the box is perfect for storing of letters and envelopes, given its size and divisions within.
