a gilt bookshelf of ash-tarnished pearl

August 30, 2008

Adorning the wall is a flourishing slab of pearl carved as a bookshelf, crested with gilt and smeared with ash.

A many-faceted opaline block is the sum of countless pearls, melded and sculpted into a rectangular shelf set heavily against the wall. The ethereal mien of the shelf catches all manner of light and reflects it in kaleidoscopic profusion, glinting in multifarious successions across the evenly pearlescent plane. The jewelled board is bound on either side by flourishing posts, anchoring the bookshelf and doubling as ornate bookends. Gilt latticework graces the surface in glimmering webs and molten trellises. The otherwise pristine surface is streaked and stained with ash, collecting in corners and strewn out morosely.

a circular obsidian bookshelf

August 14, 2008

As black as the Void itself, a circular obsidian bookshelf towers in the centre.

This unusual bookshelf has been crafted entirely out of glossy obsidian which reflects the surroundings upon its mirror-like surface. Its shape distinguishes it from usual bookshelves as it is fully circular and allows access to the shelves from all sides. It has been split vertically into four distinctive sections of shelves with the corners of the separating walls carved with cabalistic designs from the floor till the very top. The carvings have been inlaid with faintly glowing ectoplasm allowing it to illuminate the contents of the shelves even in complete darkness. The inlays have been covered with a thin diamond layer to keep the curious embellishments in place.
