an ebon dress printed with cogs
May 27, 2009Ebon silk forms this elegant dress, tailored carefully to flatter the female form. Crisp stitches in shoulders and collar delineate a cap collar closed with a single steel gear button. The dress flows open beneath the collar in a fetching window over the bosom, then resumes over the chest and down over the curves to the hip, where the dress flares out, split at both sides to mid-calf. A delicate petticoat of ruffled black lace peeks out on either side of the split, providing a slight and stylish concession to modesty. Tarnished gold print covers the silk of the garment, picking out the blocky forms of interlacing cogs across the bodice and skirt. A delicate grey cog is picked out in silk embroidery on the back of the dress on the left shoulder, depicting an amaranth held within the toothed mechanism.
